Bone Cancer

Bones form an integral structure of our body. There are 200 bones in a human body in total that provides the support and protection to the body organs. Without the bones, our body will not get any shape. It is because of the rigidity of the bone that the body gets a structure. The sudden and fast improper growth of the cells in the bones results in bone cancer. Even though bone cancer is not as common as other types of cancer, it is quite dangerous like other cancers. But with the evolution of the internet, you can now search for bone cancer and treatments online as well and find the various kinds of medications for it.

Types of bone cancer

  • Osteosarcoma: this is the most common type of bone cancer and typically begins in bone cells of arms and legs. The people between in the ages of 10 and 30 are more prone to this type of cancer.
  • Chondrosarcoma: This cancer begins in the cartilage cells and is the second most common type of bone cancer. It occurs in people under the age of 20.
  • Ewing a tumour: this cancer typically develops in the bones, but can also take place in other tissues as well as muscles. It is the third most common type of bone cancer and affects children and adolescents mostly.
  • Fibrosarcoma a tumour: this tumour typically develops in the soft tissue around the bone like the tendons, ligaments and muscle. It mostly affects the arms, jaws and legs of the adults.
  • Giant Cell Tumour: this type of bone cancer often forms in the arm or leg bones of young or middle-aged adults.
  • A chordoma tumour: this tumour affects the bones in the spine and base of the skull. It occurs in adults around 30 years of age or older.

Symptoms of bone cancer

The symptoms of the bone cancer vary based on the location and size of cancer.

  • Pain in the affected bone.
  • Swelling in the area of the pain.
  • Other symptoms: fatigue, fever, weight loss and anaemia.

Treatments for bone cancer

Bone cancer and treatments are based on the diagnosis. Here are some of the treatments for bone cancer:

  • Surgery is one the best ways to treat this cancer. The whole tumour section id removed completely during the surgery.
  • Chemotherapy and radiation therapy: chemotherapy is employed before the surgery to reduce the size of a tumour so that it becomes easy to carry out the surgery. However, if the traces are left even after the surgery, then the same method can be used to remove the cancer cells permanently. Similarly, radiation therapy is also preferred where high energy X-rays are employed. The X-ray radiations are exposed to the affected area in the body and kill the cancer cells.
  • Alternative methods that can be used to cure bone cancer are acupuncture, massage therapy, herbal products, vitamins and a special diet, meditation and spiritual healing.

Bone cancers if diagnosed early can be effectively treated. Thus, ensure that you get yourself diagnosed at the very first sign of continuous pain in your bones that is deep, gets worse with time and does not subside with normal medication.
